She has been featured on many performance and instructional videos displaying her unique skill. In this workshop Sadie will take you through a series of exercises and drills that will break down the technique and her drum solo secrets like "Pops" and "Locks" to help you develop sharper more defined isolations necessary for fast drum solo choreographies. Sat 1:30 pm Workshop with Princess Farhana more info Rockin Raqs Sharqi Combos :: Princess Farhana These sizzling Egyptian-style combinations will enhance any type f belly dance performance, and can be used in improv or choreographed situations. These combinations might look complicated, but are broken down into clear, easy-to-follow segments. We will run the gamut from stationary gooey taxims to cute traveling steps, and through a series of turns, level changes and sassy beledy moves complete with footwork, hand and arm embellishments and use of space. This special workshop focuses on slow movements and combinations perfectly suited for languid Oriental taqsim and chiftetelli pieces, such as layered shimmies, interesting variations on camels and figure eights, and veil work. It will also provide the building blocks for beautiful abdominal technique, like belly rolls and flutters, and the amazing flundulation - a belly roll layered with a flutter! Event Details

MECDA's Annual Belly Dance Carnival (formerly Cairo Carnival) returns to the Santa Anita Race Track for its third year, and is set to bring you the best of what you've come to expect from this time honored event.

MECDA has searched far and wide to bring you the best workshop instructors available. Our incredible workshops will feature both Tribal and Oriental teachers, to greater reflect the diversity of MECDA. These sought after instructors include, Heather Stants, director of Urban Tribal Dance Company (San Diego), Sadie (Colorado), Kassar (tribal duo from New Jersey), and Princess Farhana (Hollywood Royalty).

MECDA has always been proud to feature spectacular professional performers on our stages, and yet also provide performance opportunities for burgeoning dancers and troupes. As in the past, we'll have an open call performance policy, with on-going shows on two stages all day.

The amazing shopping in our indoor bazaar and outdoor gypsy camp is legendary, and we're committed to bringing you the most diverse vendors available.

MECDA's 2008 Belly Dance Carnival promises to be a fabulous event, recapturing its former glory, and taking it into the future. Pre-registration ends 6/1/08, at 11:55 pm.
